Many years ago, during the heyday of the graphic arts, there was true devotion to quality and innovation. The sector possessed in-depth technical expertise and knew how to nurture relationships. There was self-esteem and a desire for excellence.

All of this is now under threat, although these lines are not a lament or the result of nostalgia. They are a vindication of the finest graphic arts traditions. Confirmation of the strategic value of the client–designer–printer bond. And a reflection of the pride that we printers past, present and future feel for their trade.

History inspires

For 132 years, Vidal & Armadans has built a name and a world of connections based on quality and service. We started out as a general workshop. We were experts in printing glued labels; we became very strong in engraving, and, after many ups and downs, we vigorously committed to technological advances. We added unique technical expertise and a vision for continuous improvement to new machinery. We became printer-engineers, and this helped us consolidate our position in a highly competitive market.

With the onset of the 21st century, we were pioneers in Spain in terms of self-adhesive labels for wine and spirits packaging. And above all, we became a printing company that is even closer to producers and designers. Today, we are the connecting link between these two worlds, and our quality is the result of continuous dialogue.

The trade is the essence

The spirit of graphic arts has remained unchanged throughout Vidal & Armadans’ history in the industry. From our first workshop to our current industrial facilities, we have forged our path with innovative vision, the ability to adapt and hours of collaboration.

The essence of our work is the same as that of any other trade: commitment, effort and enthusiasm. It is about knowing how to convey knowledge and how to weave a network of engagement and connection. We are like a tailor who creates bespoke garments and manages to make the perfect suit by paying attention to all the details. Or like the team that works for an athlete, providing everything necessary for the winner’s triumph, fame and brilliance.

Our winners

We work with wine producers that are committed to quality throughout their entire process. Makers that view the label to be a key strategic factor. Wineries for whom the label is more than just an accounting entry. Companies that value the long term and understand that a brand is made like wine: with passion, time and care at every step of the way.

Our world is also that of graphic designers. We are very close to these professionals, welcoming their ideas and concerns, supporting their decisions and providing technical solutions that heighten creativity. We sometimes say we are like an orchestra that knows how to play music composed by others – graphic designers.

Few of us remain

Few of us printing companies respond to this demand for excellence. This need for proximity and solutions. That is why we have more work than ever. We do not waste time with clients who fail to understand the value of a label. It is not a piece of paper, but a dream made real. In other words, made from technical research, long-term profitability, an impeccable industrial process and, most importantly, a relationship of trust.

In recent years, we have stopped working with several soulless companies and consolidated our collaboration with good clients. The result has been very positive in every sense, including financially. It is not easy, for it requires conviction, self-esteem and a little audacity. But it is the only path for Vidal & Armadans and for the good of the graphic arts trade.

How to work today

We do not work thinking about what would be better for our work rate or machinery. We do not do anything for convenience. It took us almost a century and a half, not to mention many internal discussions, to understand this. Now, however, the entire team, from workshop operators to financial managers, understands why.

We are not in the trade just to stain paper and then turn the page. We are here to understand what our clients need. New dreams, new solutions, the best service and a level of excellence that puts the presentation of a bottle at the top of its market. We have often felt outside the herd. The last of the Mohicans of the graphic arts. But our conviction grows stronger every day. Because we are for the future: our own, that of designers and that of wine and spirits producers.
